Safety & Standards | Von Zantuk Ink

Your safety and well-being are my highest priority. I operate under the strictest professional protocols to ensure a sterile, safe, and comfortable environment. This page outlines the rigorous standards and procedures that define every appointment at Von Zantuk Ink.

1. Core Sterilization Principle: Single-Use & Sterilized

My fundamental rule is simple: if it can be single-use, it is. If it must be reused, it is sterilized to medical standards.

  • Single-Use, Disposable Equipment: The following items are used once on a single client, then disposed of in a certified medical waste container:
    • Needles
    • Needle Cartridges / Grips
    • Ink Caps
    • Pigment (ink)
    • Gloves
    • Barriers (plastic wrap, bibs)
    • Razors
    • Paper Towels
    • Sterile Water

2. Sterilization Process for Wireless Equipment

My primary tool is a wireless rotary tattoo machine. Because the entire unit cannot be autoclaved due to its electronic and battery components, I employ a rigorous, multi-barrier cleaning and disinfection protocol that meets health department regulations for such devices.

  • Step 1: Pre-Cleaning & Disassembly
Immediately after use, the entire machine is thoroughly wiped down with a hospital-grade disinfectant to remove all visible contaminants. The removable grip section is disassembled.
  • Step 2: Manual Scrubbing & Chemical Sterilization
All removable, non-electronic components (including the grip) are meticulously scrubbed with a dedicated brush and an enzymatic cleaner designed to break down organic material. They are then fully immersed in a EPA-registered, hospital-grade chemical sterilant that is effective against tuberculosis, viruses (including HIV and HBV), and bacteria. This chemical immersion process is performed for the exact contact time specified by the manufacturer to achieve sterilization.
  • Step 3: Barrier Protection & Final Disinfection
Critical Protocol: Before every procedure, the entire disinfected wireless machine is completely sealed in a single-use, disposable plastic barrier sleeve. This creates a sterile, impermeable barrier between the equipment and the client.
Immediately before the tattoo begins, the entire barrier-covered machine, the setup area, and all surfaces are thoroughly wiped with 70% isopropyl alcohol.

3. Investment in Advanced Sterilization (Coming Soon)

I am committed to continuous improvement. The acquisition of an ultrasonic cleaner and a UV sterilization cabinet is a key priority for the near future. These tools will add an extra, automated layer of cleaning and sterilization to my already strict process, further enhancing client safety. Updates on this investment will be shared on my Facebook page.

4. Workspace & Surface Decontamination

Before and after every client, the entire workstation undergoes a thorough decontamination process.

  • All surfaces (e.g., tattoo chair, trays, drawers, light fixtures) are cleaned with soap and water to remove visible soil.
  • All surfaces are then disinfected with an EPA-registered, hospital-grade tuberculocidal disinfectant proven effective against bloodborne pathogens.

5. Bloodborne Pathogens Compliance & Sharps Disposal

I maintain strict compliance with OSHA Bloodborne Pathogens standards to protect both myself and my clients.

  • Certification: I am currently certified in Bloodborne Pathogens training.
  • Exposure Control Plan: A written Exposure Control Plan is maintained on-site, outlining strict procedures for handling potential exposures.
  • Sharps Disposal: All used needles and razors are immediately disposed of in FDA-cleared, puncture-proof, labeled sharps containers.
  • Biohazard Waste: All other biohazard waste is disposed of in approved biohazard bags and containers. All medical waste is handled by a licensed medical waste disposal company for incineration.

6. Artist Safety & Hygiene

  • Hand Washing: Hands are washed thoroughly with antimicrobial soap before and after every procedure, after removing gloves, and after touching any potentially contaminated surface.
  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): I wear a new pair of disposable nitrile gloves for each client, changing them if they become contaminated or compromised during the procedure. Other PPE, such as masks and protective eyewear, is used as necessary.

7. Commitment to Transparency

I am committed to operating a transparent and safe studio. I am happy to explain or demonstrate any of these procedures before or during your appointment. My safety documentation is maintained on-site.

Your trust is earned through unwavering attention to detail. I would not have it any other way.
